Where Can I Serve?

Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of George Street Church of Christ is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas to every nation. George Street members are involved in a variety of ministries from things as simple as studying God’s Word with friends, to preparing the church bulletins, to preparing food for those in need

Mission Outreach

George Street Church Ministries largely focus on local and regional efforts, however we do support a number of missions in other countries like Rwanda, Uganda, Bibles to the Ukraine and Russia, and Orphans Lifeline of Hope.

While offshore missions are important, it is the belief of George Street’s members that every day ministry starts at home in our own community. To that end, the church supports a number of outreach efforts including school supply giveaways, whole family support, resources and referrals for those in need, a life recovery ministry and support group, family fellowship nights at the church building, and service centered work days. We are always open to the latest ministry calling God may be laying on us as his people.

God-honoring worship is something we strive for. Many church members get involved in our music by learning different vocal parts and teaching one another new songs.  We are glad to have an a cappella style worship.  While many churches elect to have choirs and bands, we choose to encourage one another to participate in honoring our God through the harmony of all voices as we give praise to Him.

Technology and Media

Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of George Street Church. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for outreach and teaching.  Our worship songs and sermons are displayed on screen for those that have difficulty hearing and to emphasize the message being delivered.  All of our weekly sermons will be uploaded to our website in audio formats. We also maintain an active Facebook page for additional church communication.

Prayer Partners

Prayer cannot be overestimated. Prayer moves the hand of God. George Street Church is a body of believers dependent upon prayer, and committed to God’s sovereignty. Each Sunday, during the morning service, a team of volunteers is praying for the ministry of the Word. Throughout the week, volunteers to our Prayer Warriors team, pray for their friends, those within our community in need, members deployed in our military, the ongoing work of our church, and special mission and ministry needs. Each Wednesday, the church comes together for a special time of prayer and Bible study.

Children’s Church

In order to give our children the best Bible teaching possible, George Street holds a children’s church service in conjunction with the sermon part of our main service. This special time gives kids more opportunity for interaction and learning in a context and manner that may be better suited to their age and learning styles. Our friendly children’s church volunteers have an endless stream of creativity–ranging from puppet shows, to games, to object lessons.

 Bible Study for all ages

We depend on our members to volunteer to lead and teach our classes.  These volunteers spend countless hours in study and preparation to ensure that our church continues to grow from and understand Gods will for us.  We offer classes for all age groups on Sunday Mornings and Wednesday Evenings.

We also offer Small Group Studies on Sunday Evenings.  This has been found to be one of the most beneficial ways of learning and growing closer together.  Small groups has been helping our church family to overcome a generational gap that exists in so many churches today.  Our groups are discussion based with no lecturers, but only facilitators that pose thought-provoking questions to help with our study and discussion.
